Saturday, 22 September, XIANGYANG (China): Emirates Racing’s Marit Stromoy produced an impressive set of runs in the closing stages of this morning’s 60 minute practice session to claim top spot with a fastest lap of 55.30s around the 2.23km seven-pin Han River circuit in Xiangyang, with just 0.90 seconds splitting the top seven. “This is a good boost heading into qualifying and it shows how good the boat is in conditions that really suits it,” said Stromoy who heads into BRM Qualifying looking for her second pole position and having set the fastest time of the weekend so far.
Yesterday’s pacesetter Shaun Torrente was again the quickest of the Abu Dhabi trio in a time of 55.59s, edging teammate Erik Stark for the second time this weekend and by a mere 0.03s, with Thani Al Qemzi in eighth.
Philippe Chiappe switched back to his number one engine and showed a marked improvement on yesterday’s outing posting a 55.86s lap to go fourth quickest, 0.09s faster than CTIC F1 Shenzhen China teammate Peter Morin, with Victory’s Ahmed Al Hameli rounding out the top six.
