PROFILE

MARIT STRØMØY has competed in over one hundred Grand Prix since her F1H2O World Championship debut in 2007, establishing herself as one of the most consistent drivers on the circuit.

She has a lifetime of racing experience behind her, having started racing in 1989 at just twelve years old. She started racing in the S-550 category in 1993, going on to thrice win the European Championship in 1996, 1998, and 1999, as well as the Nordic Championship in 1996 and 1999. Following these successes, she moved up to race in F-2000, coming second in the UAE President’s Cup in 2002, second in the Nordic Championship in 2005, and securing third in the 2007 European Championship.

These strong results saw her make the move up to F1H2O in 2007, in which she competed in the latter two races of the season. She has been a full time fixture since, making history in Portimão, Portugal, in 2011 by being the first woman in F1H2O to earn a pole position, and then again in 2015 when she won the Grand Prix of Sharjah, becoming the first woman to join the exclusive Grand Prix Winner Club.

Strømøy’s strongest overall season came in 2019, where she finished third overall and bagged a podium in Xiamen. She became a pioneer within the Championship for the development of Mercury’s four-stroke V8 360 APX engine, having been the first driver to adopt the power plant in 2024, and continuing to race with it since.
