SHAUN TORRENTE enters the 2026 season as World Champion, having secured his fourth career title at the very last race of 2025 in Sharjah.
The Floridian’s racing career began in the USA when he was 15, going on to be an SST- 120 (F2) world champion twice in 2002 and 2003, then moving up and winning the North American F1 Championship three times.
He made his F1H2O debut in 2007, but only came into his own following a move to the Qatar Team in 2011, with whom he raced until his move to Victory Team in 2015. After his big move, Torrente began challenging for the title, coming third in 2014 and 2015, and runner-up in 2013 and 2016.
It took a move to Team Abu Dhabi to achieve his maiden World Championship, a feat achieved in his first season with the team in 2018. He retained his title the following year, and completed a hat-trick of Championships in 2022. An injury picked up in the final race of 2023 forced him to miss the following season, putting into doubt whether the three-time F1H2O World Champion would ever race again.
Torrente proved his pedigree as a risk-taker both on and off the water, returning to the sport in spectacular style in 2025 by reuniting with Victory Team with a promise to immediately return to the top, a promise he fulfilled in the final race of the season when he edged long-time rival Jonas Andersson to a fourth World Championship. He has announced the 2026 season as his last, hoping to end on a high with a fifth career World Championship.
